The iBlot® Gel Transfer Device performs western blotting transfer efficiently and reliably typically in 7 minutes or less without the need for liquid buffers. The device is integral part of the iBlot® Western Blotting System. The system consists of the device and disposable blotting stacks that contain the buffers and the transfer membrane (nitrocellulose or PVDF), and offers high quality transfer, convenience and speed. The device and the stacks are sold separately. The iBlot® system is ideal for scientists analyzing proteins through western blotting who want:
• Complete protein transfer in seven minutes or less
• High detection sensitivity and evenness
• Increased blotting reliability and reproducibility
• Flexible gel size formats and membrane types
How it Works
Buffer ion reservoirs are incorporated in the gel matrix (transfer stacks) instead of buffer tanks or soaked papers (Figure 2). The high density and availability of ions in the gel matrix enables rapid protein transfers. During blotting, the copper anode does not generate oxygen gas as a result of water electrolysis, which can cause blotting distortion. Conventional protein transfer techniques, including wet, semi-wet, and semi-dry, use inert electrodes which generate oxygen. With the iBlot® Western Blotting System, transfer time is reduced by using a shortened distance between electrodes, high field strength, and high currents. Trapped air bubbles, often created during the manual preparation of the blotting sandwich layers, are avoided using a unique de-bubbling design to ensure even and complete transfers.
iBlot® Transfers Save You Time
With the iBlot® system, there’s no need to prepare buffers, pre-treat your gel, or clean up after your blotting. The total preparation and run time is normally less than 10 minutes per blot. Compared to the conventional western transfer techniques, iBlot® transfers save you hours (Table 1).
